Twilight is Over! Plus Cashmere Glow & Truck Stop Diners

Happy Birthday Dad! So it was my dad’s birthday and so what did we do? Well mom and I went to see Breaking Dawn part 2. I’m so sad the series is over but I’m happy with how it ended. The twist at the end was pretty funny.

Then afterwards we stopped in at Bath & Body Works to check out this new fragrance they’ve been emailing me about. I thought it was kind of meh, and their VIP bag? Meh as well. I mean you have to spend $40 and then you get to pay $20 more for a tote bag with stuff. It’s a good deal for $20 but still you’re actually having to pay $60 for it all. If you’re catching up with their scents or getting a ton of stuff they say you can combine their $10 off $30 coupon and the buy one get one free coupon I think. That’s a lot of freaking body sprays, lotions, and other smelly things. If that’s all you’re giving away for Christmas or you’re stocking up- that’s great but if you’re like me and already have one of everything, it’s kind of a waste. Perhaps maybe they should rethink this deal and allow you to choose the products to put into your bag, that’d be a better option for me. Just saying.

I did pick up a set using the buy one, get one free coupon. I chose Cashmere Glow and this is how they describe it on their site:

Top Notes: Bergamot, Golden Peach, Pink Guava, Exotic Berries, Gilded Apricot
Mid Notes: Glowing Muguet Petals, Mimosa, Fluffy Peony, Fresh Jasmine
Dry Notes: Shimmering Vanilla, Dulce De Leche, Sandalwood, Cashmere Musk
Aloe conditions and nourishes skin

Call me simple but wtf is a Gilded Apricot??

From that description I never would have chosen it since I tend to pick more floral fragrances like Moonlit Path but this has a light floral scent with a hint of sweet fruitiness. I don’t really even like to eat a lot of fruit much less wear it, but this was great.

So after the movie and shopping we headed home to pick up my brother and dad so we could go out to dinner. We chose to go to one of my favorite places- the truck stop! Yes, I love the truck stop diner, it’s called the Silver Skillet and its open 24 Hours, great for a family like mine that seems to be up all hours of the night. They have a lot of comfort food, awesome breakfast platters and the service is friendly. We all had steaks, except for mom who had the roast beef, I think it was too much for me and I almost wish I had opted for the pasta. Maybe next time. I think it was all a little too much for us because we came home with like 4 containers of left overs. It was yummy as usual!

After dinner we had to stop by the store to pick up some stuff my parents would bring to Thanksgiving dinner, so we stopped by Target and I ended up buying a planner for next year. I’m sure I’ll get tons of use out of it, considering how crazy my schedule has gotten but I can’t use it right away so that’s a boo!

November Birchbox

There was some weirdness going on with my Birchbox or the post office because I was tracking the package and it went from NJ to the Bay Area, then up to my city (Sacramento) then back down to the Bay Area then it was delivered. So I didn’t know when to expect it. Today when I came home from work, it was in my mailbox waiting for me- so yay! As happy as I was to get mail, I was somewhat iffy about what I got in my Birchbox. Let me just tell you what I got:

*Atelier Cologne | Rose Anonyme Cologne Absolue Full Size $75-$195
*Miracle Skin Transformer | Vanish Instant Imperfection Corrector Full Size $58
*Oscar Blandi | Pronto Texture & Volume Spray Full Size $25
*Stila | All Over Shimmer Luminizer Full Size $20
Lifestyle Extra-
*Chuao Chocolatier | Assorted ChocoPod (Mine was in Potato Chip) Full Size $7.95/ 7 Pack

So now that I’ve covered that let’s get to the pros and cons.

Pros: I love the Stila Illumnizer & I’m super excited to try the Imperfection Corrector- those products are things I actually want to try and the Stila Illumnizer had the perfect amount of shine to it, without being too sparkly.
Cons: Perfume again. This is my 3rd Birchbox now and it’s the 3rd box to have a perfume sample. Not that I don’t love perfume, I just try not to have so much of it, and having recently found Flower by Kenzo & finally purchasing VS Angel- I think I’m covered in the perfume section. I would have preferred to try the serum that was shown on the preview video since it has a fragrance and it seems to be more than just a nice scent. I need something for moisturizing my hands during this time of year. Also, while the Oscar Blandi product is a nice deluxe sample size I really don’t focus too much on my hair, that may be partially my fault since I have to alter my profile. I still have yet to use the volumizing product I received in my very first Birchbox. Perhaps I’ve also seen to many unboxing videos but everyone seems to have received the fiber lash mascara, I was hoping to get that so I could finally try false fiber mascara. A long time ago when I lived in Japan, I had purchased a product with false fibers and I loved it. It just recently caught on in the past few years here and I’ve yet to try the newer versions.

So with all that being said- I believe I’m ready to cancel my Birchbox subscription and try another service. I’ve seen a few vids and I think I’m gonna try out Ipsy. They used to be knows as My Glam Bag, I think. I’ll probably try it for 3 months as well and then maybe make the leap to try Glossy Box, unless I’m feeling a little adventurous tonight and get both!

Sometimes, patience does pay off!

Have you ever been browsing through a store, trying samples of this and that? Well every time I go to the Base Exchange with my mom, I always spritz a bit of Victoria’s Secret Angel, it always seems to floral and pretty. I always tell myself that I’m gonna order it online from VS as soon as I get home. When I do get home I look at the price ($45!) and decide not to do it. I was actually looking at my VS coupon book and thinking of ordering it in December because that’s when their coupon is valid. Well, someone must have heard my wish because the Victoria’s Secret fragrances are now on sale for $30! Both the 1.0 oz and the 2.5 oz are the same price! Then I also have a $20 rewards card, so with shipping and tax then minus my gift card- I paid only $20!

I also got a secret rewards card but that usually only gives me $10, always has and probably always will, I may just use it for perfume in December but this totally made my day!

Carried Away with Tarte

Don’t you just love really awesome gift sets? Well the Carried Away with Tarte set is a really great steal for $54, it has all you need to take off on a little adventure. With 24 eyeshadows, 8 lip glosses, mascara, blush,
soft round brush, finishing powder all in a gorgeous case! Of course in my case I’d need to add some primer, face makeup, eyeliner, a few more brushes and then I can grab it and go. What really impressed me about this whole set is the range of colors, all of the colors go well with each other, or you can just use the various quads grouped together if you’re not so good with color selection. The lip glosses range from sparkling pink to very muted nudes. The case itself is a huge bonus, the eyeshadows fit in a little pocket behind it, the side pockets can hold a lot of stuff. It’s perfect for traveling and separating your items so you can have you face makeup on one side and your lip products on the other. The quality of the makeup is very good, with buttery, pigmented shades that I can’t wait to play with. Unlike the Sephora kit I bought last time I was in Sephora I feel like this is more of what I would use (eye products) and less lip products, all in a more portable case. Get yours now and get Carried Away at Sephora

Chipotle & Retail Therapy

So life is going to start to get crazy soon, well it actually already is for me and some of my friends. In order to relax and have a little fun, my friend Lindsey and I decided to partake in some retail therapy and get some dinner after work today. Well, I worked, she didn’t. We actually both work together at one of my jobs. It would have been a lot nicer if it wasn’t so rainy but we grabbed a quick bite at Chipotle and then headed to Macy’s at Sunrise Mall. She had to do some Christmas shopping for her gran and her mother, who are in England where she’s originally from. She picked up a cute wallet and some awesome gift sets. I spied a cute black sparkly makeup bag on clearance and had to buy it. I’m not a huge Macy’s shopper but I can never resist clearance!

From Macy’s we headed over to JC Penney’s because I wanted to pop into the Sephora. I was looking for the ‘Best of’ gift set or something like that, not for Christmas but as a reward for myself lol. We browsed around and tried things out, I settled for a few small things and one big thing I’ll be showing you tomorrow. So, I purchased-

*Too Faces Beauty Editor Darlings
*Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer

I got for free-
*Philosophy Hope in a Jar Deluxe Sample (100 Beauty Insider Points)
*Nars Orgasm Illuminator Deluxe Sample
*Fresh Sugar Lips Mini Duo (BDay Gift)
*Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
*Sephora Hydrating Powder Blush in Rose Petal

I have so far used the powder blush and I loved it. The Smashbox primer is my new favorite primer and each sample packet is actually good for 2-3 applications. I used the mascara from the Too Faced set and it had a nice skinny applicator that didn’t make my lashes clump up. My favorite thing here so far is the Fresh Sugar Lips Mini duo. I am so loving this cute set, the lip glosses are so smooth and they have no flavor but a nice sweet scent. It’s not sugary at all, but it is yummy! I am definitely going to be buying more of this brand!

Black Friday Doom!

It’s all over the news right now that Black Friday has morphed into Black Thursday. It’s a fact that all the stores are releasing their upcoming Black Friday ads and most of them are actually opening their doors on Thursday night. That would have been insane years ago, and only one or two stores would have participated. We used to actually respect the fact that it was a day off, a whole day off to spend with your loved ones (or ones you mildy tolerate) while drinking and stuffing yourself with yummy food! While one of my jobs is not really into the Black Friday thing- the other place I work at- is. I’m actually looking forward to the event, because it starts at midnight and runs they have specials every few hours. To be honest I won’t mind working overnight because I’m a crazy night person. So long as I have enough time to spend with my family and I don’t have to be back on Thursday evening I think I’ll be alright. Now we just have to wait until this Thursday to see whether or not my Thanksgiving day meal will be cut short.

NYC City Duet 2in1 Lip Color

So I think the toll of working two jobs and the weather has gotten to me, I’ve been feeling a little under the weather these past two days, I’m starting to get better though. It’s mostly a sinus thing and it usually hits me around this time when it starts to get cold. It didn’t keep me from working and shopping though!

I went with my mom and brother to Old Navy to make use of my Super Cash I earned last month, since it was the last day. My brother got a scarf and some khaki pants, I got some shirts, which I think I was overcharged for so I have to go back and check on that. The tees were $8 each so they were a nice deal, I bought something on clearance that I think I was charged full price on.

After that little detour we went to Target where I picked up the cutest lipsticks from NYC. As you have seen I’ve been experimenting with lipsticks and what a better way to try them when they have two shades in each tube! The NYC City Duets have two different shades on either side of the lipstick- for close to $3 each, this was quite a steal. The two shades I purchased were called The Empire Lilacs and The Penthouse Plums. They’re definitely glossy, but buildable- mind you I wasn’t pressing too hard for the swatches, I didn’t want the colors to mix. My favorite of the two were the Penthouse Plums simply because they were darker and one had more of a reddish hint to it. The only problem I could see for these is if you favor one color over the other. With the Empire Lilacs I could see them mixing well as long as you apply the shades evenly. I’m so excited to wear these tomorrow!

Wet’N’Wild $.69 Picks

I had to stop into Walgreens after work one day and I happened to notice that they had some Wet’n’Wild products on sale, so I grabbed a few basics I needed and two lipsticks I wanted to try. I normally don’t wear lipstick, preferring Chapstick or lip gloss to lipstick. I just hate having to touch up makeup and I don’t want to spend too much money on a product I don’t use very often. So this was a way to give it a shot. I bought two lipsticks in the shades Cashmere & Java, an eyebrow/eyeliner pencil in Taupe, and 2 lip liners in Willow & Chestnut. Cashmere was a light brown color and Java was a rich, dark brown. I was very happy with the consistency, i didn’t try them with the lip liners so it was very slippery feeling. It probably would have been better with the lip liners. Unfortunately the colors did nothing for me, either being too dark or light. I may just have to give them away. The liners worked out much better for me, I will definitely get more use from them. All in all- the $.69 items were a great deal and I’ll be getting more liners if/when I go back to Walgreens.
