Last week I posted about the scarves I was ordering at 4 am? Well they finally arrived in the mail and I love them! I bought 2 scarves, one in a fall plaid pattern with fringe and another that was a ‘viscose’ type with purple zebra print. They were both better than I expected but I love the plaid fringe one, its definitely perfect for fall and doesn’t fall into the traditional fall color scheme so I think this may even be perfect for year round. The zebra print is also nice but I might actually give that one away since I’m not that keen on it, even though I love purple.
Today was a good day. Work was great, the weather is cool-ish and my lil baby kitty Jack turned 6! I’m sitting in my backyard and my neighbors are blasting their music. Not my next door neighbors mind you, the neighbors a few houses down. It’s horrible and it’s not in English. That matters none to me of course, I won’t criticize people for their terrible musical proclivities. As long as its inside their own homes! My AC cycling on and off, nails on a chalkboard, bagpipes, water dripping…. to name a few things I’d rather listen to that your music. Keep it in your car and/or house please!
This actually arrived in the mail yesterday but I already had a post so I decided to save it for today. This palette has actually been out awhile but it showed up as a deal on Groupon Goods for only $15 so I decided to buy it, normally this goes for $25-$30. It’s got 2 makeup sections with a mirror divider. There are 24 eyeshadows in great colors- most have a bit of shimmer, 2 blushes, 2 lip glosses, 3 bronzers and a blush/bronzer combo. From the reviews I’ve seen on the net, the eyeshadows can be chalky and not that pigmented. I’ve only used this once so far- I used the bluish purple shade and the gold shimmer. I did notice the chalkiness but I’m happy with the color payoff. The only other thing I used from the palette was the combo bronzer & blush. That was just meh, perhaps it was too light for me.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about my cat Momo. He was my very first real pet. He wasn’t actually my first pet, I had a dog when I was younger and we had a family cat named Koko before we adopted Mo from the Solano County Animal Shelter. He was my 16th birthday present from my parents. They must have misheard me when I asked for a car lol, just kidding I never wanted a car at 16. I remember my dad picking me up after school and taking me to the animal shelter to pick out a kitten and I recall how I picked the one who climbed all over his siblings to get to to front of his cage so I’d notice him. We took him home and my mother made a joke that we were suppose to bring home a cute kitten and not some little fluff ball that looked more like a mouse. That little ball of fluff quickly grew and soon he was even bigger than Koko. Unfortunately after only about six months, my dad received his next orders from the Air Force and we had to move to Okinawa, Japan. We were told we could not take our pets, so we had to give Koko away (a decision we regret to this day because we found out later that we could have taken Koko) and my grandmother agreed to take Mo in. She couldn’t take Koko because he was used to living in the suburbs and being let outside once in awhile, he would be forced to stay inside if he lived in Berkeley. Even when we moved back to California after my dad left the Air Force I couldn’t take Mo back because we lived in a rental. It wasn’t until 2004 when we moved to Sacramento and into our home that I was finally able to take Mo back permanently. I’ll always be grateful to my grandmother for taking Mo in while we were unable to have him with us. He was more her cat than mine in a lot of ways because he lived with her a lot longer. For 2 years he enjoyed living in our house, lounging outdoors and playing with his companions- first Puddy and then Ella. Then one Sunday we noticed he was acting lethargic and he just didn’t look well. We took him to the vet and they ran tests but they determined he had weakened lungs and an upper respiratory infection. On its own the infection could have been cured but for Mo, the outlook wasn’t so good. We all sat up with him that night and my grandmother came up to say her goodbyes, and he passed away at home on the morning of Tuesday, September 26, 2006. It’s been six years and I still miss him.
My cat Ella definitely missed him and so we didn’t wait as long as I thought we would before we got another cat. I had wanted a cat who was different than Mo but also similar in ways- so I adopted Sophie, a little girl cat who had similar coloring. Unfortunately Ella hated Sophie, so I adopted one more cat- a little orange tabby who had been abandoned by his mother. Jack had also been born around the time that Mo had died, maybe a little part of Mo was reincarnated as my big fluff ball Jack. And that makes me love him just a little bit more.
Here are the kitties- Jack, Sophie & Ella
Awhile back I remember my uncle mentioning a Japanese store on Telegraph that had a lot of knick knacks and cutesy Japanese stuffs. Normally I go to Ichiban Kan on San Pablo but I saw Daiso on It’s Judy’s Life, so I had to check it out. So I bought a bunch of beauty stuff and a Madeleine pan. Everything was $1.50!
So I bought:
-pink pencil case: I’m gonna use it for my brushes
-floral makeup case (I gave that to my aunt)
-pink makeup palette
-brown makeup palette (I gave to another aunt)
-a Madeleine pan
The eyeshadow I bought just because I wanted to try them and I couldn’t resist. The brown palette was too light for me. I thought the rose palette was too shimmery but after a few swipes it lost some shimmer.
Yeah it’s 4 am and I have work later in the day but guess who just used her awesome deal and got some new scarves? I did! So for the past two weekends Groupon apparently has been worried that I haven’t been spending any money and they sent me $5 off credits towards any Groupon deal. I unfortunately forgot about the one from 2 weekends ago but they luckily sent it this weekend again and I took advantage of it and bought the deal from Scarves.com. There were 2 options- $15 for $40 worth of scarves and $30 for $80 worth of scarves. I was seriously considering buying the one for $30 but then my brain kicked me and I bought the $15 deal for $10 of course. I had no idea this site even existed and I had to restrain myself from ordering too much, but since I have never used it before I decided to just stick to the basics. I got one viscose zebra print scarf and one polyester fringed scarf. The patterns are what I really was looking for and they were not wool or fleece, I could easily get those from work, plus it’s still in the 80’s and 90’s where I live so I may never need anything much thicker than what I ordered. Plus, if I really don’t like them I’m sure I can give them away to people who do love scarves more than I do. So yay for great deals!
Oh I’d also like to mention that normally when I do buy Groupons from stores and the like I don’t usually buy the bare minimum. It’s just good practice to buy more since I know the vendors sell these at a great discount, but I’m broke right now and I’m sure I’ll come back for more if I do like the products. The shipping was actually pretty reasonable and they had alot of options.
So today was my day off and so I slept in and then in the afternoon, my brothers friend Sean called and invited us to meet him and his wife Erica for dinner. We agreed and decided to meet up at Dos Coyotes in Davis. Dos has always been one of my favorite places to eat and I almost always get the same thing- Chicken Caesar Salad. The portions are huge and their creamy garlic salad dressing is amazing. Their menu consists of Southwest cuisine and I have tried a few other items on their menu but I always go back for the salad. My brother had the southwest burrito and I think Erica and Sean had the tacos. Their salsa bar is great and has many options including this weird liquidy guacamole, it was okay. One of their salsas was actually kind of sweet, which was surprising. Maybe it was because I haven’t had it lately but for some reason my salad wasn’t as good as it usually was. We did arrive kind of late, but I don’t think that’s a good excuse for sub par quality food. While I was disappointed in the food, the company more than made up for it. Even though we only see Sean and Erica about once a year, it’s always a good time! Sean even contributed some ideas that we probably won’t be using for our next story 🙂 but he has earned a cameo in the next book for sure.
Since I was having so much fun, I completely forgot about taking any photos so I took a picture of the cupcakes my aunt sent back with my parents. They’re exotic cupcakes! My fave was the chocolate one, its chocolate and something but I have no idea what. It was delish tho!
So I rarely buy anything from Victoria’s Secret, partially because of the funky sizes and I don’t particularly like their bras. They did have a promotion that caught my eye last week. They had a set of 3 makeup bags free with purchase and of course I’ve been looking for a new makeup bag (or three), so I went ahead and made my purchase. I won’t go into specifics about what I bought (boots!), but I was expecting the package to arrive next week, it was a happy surprise when I got the notice from my Slice app that they were out for delivery.
Now about the palette, today I worked an 8 hour shift and so I had to take an hour lunch, I hate taking lunch by the way. I ended up going to Target, which was nearby and I browsed the aisles. I was hoping to purchase the Sonia Kashuk palette but it was apparently back to the full price of $19.95! When I accompanied my aunt to the Target in Albany, those same palettes were $8.99 each. I should have gotten both! So, I was not willing to spend that money on a big neutral palette, so instead I purchased the ELF Little Black Book in python. It was $6 and contained 48 shades of eyeshadow, most of which have a shimmery finish. I also bought the matching $2 brush for the heck of it.
Update!: I have to apologize if anything I wrote here sounds weird, I was literally falling asleep as I wrote this on my iPhone. It fell on my head a few times lol!
So I started wearing earrings again and since my jewelry box is so sad, I decided to go out and purchase some earrings today. I needed some studs for everyday wear, but I also wanted some dangle earrings. Some of them were on clearance so I really didn’t spend that much on the haul, which is great! The cascading circles I specifically bought from Old Navy to match a necklace my mom bought for me.
